course to learn English in El Pais: bad impressions My father has been proposed to speak English. For this we have purchased the course of the BBC that comes with the country, that with which we have given the stick by the TV ("real life does not have subtitles, my friend" ) for a while. Well, not really bought it because I think the number one gave it for free, from the number two and are 9.95 euros.
I ask for help to see the computer course, and when I arrive I find that there is a CD-ROM, and a separate DVD with volume 1. Moreover, some very pretty colors, but I see no installation instructions anywhere.
The course is called BBC Inglés Plus , and according to the culture section on the website of El Pais, is "the most complete course and developed so far, with new opportunities to learn, adapt to the rhythms of modern life, as described in the article. I quote: "Downloading the texts, videos and exercises in the mobile, MP3 or online can continue to learn while waiting in line at the supermarket or going to work." In fact, on the cover of the DVD can be read something like "The English of the century" (I write from memory because I have the DVD front.) So install
software, and I find a screen that lists all the lessons, and next icons to select which content you want: if video, if mp3, if mobile content, which if course online . There are some icons inch green, and all the other red. I go to the first section and give it to the video. Then I asked to insert the DVD of lesson 1, but nothing happens to it. Conclusion
after a while you move the mouse back and forth, reading the signs: This course software is a trap for unwary, for two reasons. First, because all the icons that are in red (almost all) are paid content, as explained in this link to the official website of the course. So if you want the mp3, mobile content or online course, you have to pay. This, I think, not what they say in TV ads. Yes, they say in the article the web, specifically say this: "With the first issue the reader will get a CD-ROM that allows you to have on your computer and get a free sample of each format: text, video, MP3 and mobile. " A very subtle way of saying that the rest of the examples and lessons are extra.
Moreover, there is a button to register that all of a sudden asks your bank data, which gives bad scene, because even for convenience, to avoid having to enter your credit card number each time you download content, it is also true that in this way and you can charge from the start every time you give a red icon, either by mistake or ignorance.
Having seen, I decided to uninstall the software from the computer of my father, and put the DVD, to see what happened. On this occasion he left himself an English course, with interactive content (I mean you can select the video of the lesson and if you want subtitles or not). However, when you start to see the lessons you by a sense of deja vu when you see everyone dressed as a chapter in Superagente 86, or you do not see even a digital clock anywhere. Not that the lessons are bad, is that they are the same as always with a different wrapper. At least as far as I could see Lesson 1. What can I say, I personally liked Muzzy.
In short, bad impression has given me the brand new English course offered by El Pais. I expected nothing else.
