Today, May 6, is the International Day without diets. The purpose of this annual celebration is to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness of the dangers and futility of dieting . It was created in 1992 by Mary Evans Young, director of the anti-diet " Diet Breakers . After suffering from anorexia, Mary was dedicated to helping people to appreciate for what they are, and appreciate the body they have.
The objectives of this day are:
- Questioning the belief of ideal weight or the perfect body.
- declare a day off from dieting and obsession with body weight.
- Present data on the "diet industry", emphasizing its ineffectiveness.
- Show how diets perpetuate violence against women.
- Honoring victims eating disorders and weight loss surgery.
- help end discrimination for being overweight, obsession with sizes and fat phobia.
Take this day to take away from miracle diets and magic weight-loss treatments. Commit to listening to your body and enjoy a healthy and balanced diet:
I promise:
- That I will not diet for one day on May 6, International Day without diets!
- I'll eat if I have hunger.
- Do not feel shame or guilt about my size or eating.
- will think if their diet has improved my health and welfare or not.
- And try to make at least one thing of which I have postponed "until they lose weight."
